Theatre Program

The Theater department at TCA offers students from 6th through 12th grade the opportunity to explore the theatrical arts and its rich history around the world. Sixth grade students in Speech and Theater perform during chapel and other events, such as Grandparents’ Day. The junior high students explore the art of pantomime, puppeteering, black light and shadow theater. They also explore makeup techniques and special effects. High school students continue to advance in theatrical studies by delving into character and script analysis, costume design, scenic and set design, clowning, human video, and black light theater. Junior high and high school students perform during chapel and also in the community at different events in churches such as Westside Baptist Church. Advance Theater students also participate in the Improv Troupe at the opening of the plays and musicals.

Since 2021, the Theater department has grown from one annual play to two productions - a fall play and a spring musical. These extra-curricular productions begin with an audition process that includes students from the 5th to 12th grades in a no-cut program.

The plays and musicals have included the collaboration of wonderful professionals such as vocal coach Stephanie Copeland and choreographer Antonio Frías. TCA Theater has also been blessed to have the collaboration of other teachers such as Martin Hersey, James Ivey and Rebekah Dix who have either choreographed, acted, or coached the cast members. And in its 2022-2023 season, two alumnus joined the production team as assistant directors- Avery Gainey and Andrew Doré. Furthermore, in May 2023, TCA Theater added its first school senior show with a cast of mostly seniors, alumnus and some upperclassmen in an intimate, dessert styled theater with Little Women!

TCA Theater is also proud of the growth of the students interested in the technical aspects of theater! The crews have expanded with each theatrical production from 4 or 6 to 26 members. As some parents volunteer to build the set pieces on campus or at their homes, the crew members dedicate hundreds of hours to sewing new costumes, adapting stock costumes, gathering and decorating accessories, gathering and building props, designing and painting flats or set pieces, conditioning furniture, and training to run the sound and light boards as well as training to be stage managers and calling the cues of the show in its entirety to produce a totally student run show every time!

Theatre Program Leadership

Rebekah Wilson was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida where she attended Trinity Christian Academy. After graduating high school, Rebekah attended Word of Life Bible Institute’s one-year Bible program before making her way to the University of Central Florida. During her time at UCF, Rebekah started taking film acting classes at a local acting studio and decided to transfer to Trinity Baptist College to pursue a degree in fine arts where she eventually graduated with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies with components in Speech, Theatre, and Music. During these college years, Rebekah found a love for working with students, becoming a substitute teacher at the Academy as well as a soccer, track, and drama coach. At the end of 2019, Rebekah moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. It was during that time In Los Angeles she got the opportunity to work at a number of big production studios before the Covid shutdown in 2020 brought her back to Jacksonville. She has since worked as a Youth Director at a local church and become heavily involved in the local film community. Rebekah believes theatre, media, music, and film are great tools that can be used to minister and inspire today’s youth, and she greatly enjoys getting to teach and create art that helps do that.
